Have you tried speaking Spanish on holiday? How did that go?

Have you already been to Spain or Latin America, and you were so excited to try your newly acquired Spanish, but felt so disappointed? Did you feel useless? Did you think you couldn't do it?

Well, let me tell you, everyone at some point, when trying a new language, has felt this way. Should you give up then? No, if you have already tried it even once, then be proud of yourself. It’s a step forward. You are one step closer to mastering it!

Remember,  'Practice makes perfect.’ I was terrible at English in school.  And here I am in England teaching Spanish to English speakers!

Pronunciation is key! Get the right pronunciation, don’t worry about speaking fast during the first stage of learning Spanish. Speaking fast comes later. Learn how the native speakers join the sounds of the words. Sometimes two or even four words could be heard as one word only.

I always emphasize to my students to have the correct pronunciation when talking and when reading. The listening practice helps a lot with better understanding.

Are you ready to take the plunge and interact in Spanish? Remember…keep it simple! And don’t be afraid of making mistakes.
